4 Lessons Learned From A Little Brown Girl

Jpeg

Who’s Teaching Who

When you have children sometimes you are so caught up in trying to teach them everything that they are “supposed” to know. You want them to possess every opportunity that you didn’t have.

Many times the result is that instead your children are teaching you.

There are 4 lesson I have learned from my little “brown” girl. If you don’t have a little brown girl, there is still a lesson to be learned.

1. No one can define who you are. I tend to think my daughter was born to shift mindsets. Her first question at a very small age, was “Why do people call us, black…we are brown.”

Even after a brief history of how that classification came to be, she wasn’t satisfied with that answer.
It doesn’t matter what box you are supposed to check, know who you are and live it out!  Be confident in who God created you to be.

2. Smiling won’t hurt. Learn to smile despite how your day may be going. Smiling can actually produce a calming effect on you. It really takes practice, I am practicing right now!

3. Learn to love. Love should never be conditional. Love is enduring. Love is never easy, but changes you.

4. Learn to serve. Our daughter will often make up our bed or bring my husband’s shoes downstairs for him. Doing nice things for people and expecting nothing in return is truly serving.

Don’t Let Life Pass You By
Don’t let life just pass you by. get to know your children and really pay close attention to them. There is so much that you can glean from the little ones that God has given you to raise.

There are always teachable moments, where your children are actually teaching you.

What are some lessons that you have learned from your children? Click here I would love to hear from you.

5 Steps To Annoy Your Comfort Zone

annoycomfortzone

Uncertainty in life can bring about a lot of emotional discomfort, whether it is becoming a stay at home mom, starting a homeschool blog, or budget meal planning.

Oftentimes it feels like you are walking on a tight rope or feels like you are barely hanging on like a thread. You may be a little shaky, your palms may be sweaty, and your heart may be pounding so hard that you feel it is going to burst.

There are 5 steps that if taken can annoy your comfort zone.
What do you usually do in these situations? Do you shrink back? Do you turn around in the opposite direction from which you were headed?

You may be thinking well, it is familiar, it’s less risky, and it hasn’t failed me.

“Comfort is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there”-unknown

A quick story…

As a child I was very shy and quiet. Partly, I remember that I was just afraid to be seen, afraid to speak up. I am not sure when that fear began, but to me it was odd because the people around me were the opposite.

Well,  in my mind, since they were more outgoing it seemed that they were less fearful.

Now as an adult, I would be content just to not say anything, not be seen or heard. But, I wouldn’t grow as a person, and be a light for who God wants me to reach.

Taking Action…

Stepping out on faith, through the uncertainty brings freedom in your life.

I want to share with you 5 steps on how you can began to step out of your comfort zone.

  1. Find scriptures and words of encouragement to start meditating on.
  2. Seek an accountability partner and/or mastermind group.
  3. Take a deep breath and tell yourself ‘you can do it’
  4. Move in the opposite direction of your comfort zone.
  5. Keep up with all 4 steps.

“Our faith must be turned into action that reflects God’s word and promises”-A Woman Of Valor

This takes practice and this is a continual process…never ending. I still feel fear creeping up when I need to make decisions and when things continue to be uncertain in my life. I make a choice to trust faith and work through my fear.

I continue to meditate on scripture, get encouragement, give myself a pep talk, and continue to move forward.

You can do this! I would love to hear your thoughts. What are you doing right now to move away from your comfort zone? If you don’t already have a system in place, I encourage you to try these steps. COMMENT BELOW
